Scholarship Details

Organization: STEM Bridge for Noyce Scholarships
Qualifications: Those eligible for Fall 2006 include UMass Amherst students and transfers who will be juniors or seniors, and UMass seniors or recent graduates who will be grad students. They must be majors in math, science, or engineering or related fields. Minority students, community college transfers, part time, and University Without Walls and other nontraditional students are encouraged to apply.
Scholarship Description:

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FUTURE MATH AND SCIENCE TEACHERS

The STEM Bridge for Noyce Scholars program has announced National Science Foundation scholarships of up to $20,000 over two years for UMASS students who want to become middle or high school science or math teachers.

Awards will range from $7500 to $10,000 per year for one or two years; amounts above $7500 will be need based. Part time students are eligible for reduced awards. Graduate students will also receive waivers on their tuition and curriculum fees.

Scholarship recipients must agree to teach middle or high school mathematics or science for at least two years in a high-need district for each year that they receive a scholarship. The high-need designation applies to many districts, large and small, urban and rural, throughout the United States.

 

The program is administered by the STEM Education Institute and the School of Education.

Seniors and recent graduates applying for funding as grad students should apply by January 15, 2006. Others should apply by April 15, 2006. Late< applications will be considered if funds are available.
