The Department is pleased to announce
the addition of four faculty with research interests
in sensor networks, data
mining, computer vision, and distributed systems. Joining as tenure-track
faculty are: Deepak Ganesan, David Jensen, Erik Learned-Miller, and
Arun Venkataramani.

receives Pioneer Award -
Professor
Andy Barto is the recipient of the 2004 IEEE Neural Networks Society
Neural Networks Pioneer Award.

faculty awarded NSF ITR grants -
In the highly competitive NSF ITR program, UMass Amherst computer science
faculty received two new awards this year.
[ Rosenberg
accepts Research Award -
Distinguished Professor Arnold Rosenberg accepted the NSM Outstanding
Research Award.
[ Grant
supports computer
security teaching -
CS faculty and colleagues from the local five colleges received a grant
to support expanded teaching offerings in the field of compuer surity
and the protection for networks, hardware, and software.

research funding -
The Department continues to focus on new research as evidenced
