Interests
Compilers, memory management, runtime systems, and architectures with a focus on memory hierarchy performance.
Biography
Ph.D., Computer Science, Rice University (1992), M.S., Computer Science, Rice University (1990), B.A., Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, Rice University (1985).
Research
Professor McKinley's current research focus is on developing compiler algorithms and tools that enable programmers to use a high-level programming style and modern languages, and yet still achieve high performance on scalar, parallel, distributed, and heterogeneous architectures. She is particularly interested in effectively using processor memory hierarchies. Her interests also include software architectures for scalable parallel and distributed applications, such as information retrieval.
Awards & Activities
Professor McKinley received the Chateaubriand Scholarship for the Exact Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in 1992-1993. In 1996 she received a four-year Career Award grant from the National Science Foundation. In 1999 she received the Texas Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (TICAM) Fellowship. She has also been the recipient of an IBM Faculty Award for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 years and the Department of Computer Sciences Faculty Fellowship #7, for the 2004-2005 academic year. She is a member of the ACM, the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society.
