New Student Graduate Employee Orientations

The following times and rooms have been scheduled for the upcoming academic year New Graduate Student Employee Orientations:

Tuesday, August 21 9:30 a.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Wednesday, August 22 1:00 p.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Thursday, August 23 9:30 a.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Monday, August 27 1:00 p.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Tuesday, August 28 1:00 p.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Wednesday, August 29- INTL. STUDENTS 1:00 p.m., Mahar Auditorium
Thursday, August 30 9:30 a.m., Herter Hall, Room 231
Friday, August 31 9:30 a.m., Tobin Hall, Room 304

 

The presentations last about an hour and there is plenty of time afterwards for students to receive assistance in completing their paperwork and ask questions.

These orientatioins are designed to address and complete all of the necessary paperwork requirements for graduate students for them to become employees at UMass Amherst. At the orientations, students will be helped with all mandatory federal, state and required campus forms such as I-9's, W-2's, the Participation Agreement and the Union Dues deduction form. Additionally, students will get a comprehensive explanation of their health and dental insurance plans and immunization requirements. These orientation are required and are the best and most efficient way for completing all of these critical requirements.

Students attending these sessions must bring with them ID and documentation which fulfills federal employment verification requirements, for instance:

US Citizens and Resident

  • US Passport, or
  • Drivers license or University picture ID & social security card or US birth certificate
  • Voided check if they desire direct deposit of pay into a checking account

International Students

  • Visa
  • Unexpired passport with I-94 card
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Social Security card – if you have one
  • List of dates of entry to & exit from the U
  • Voided check if they desire direct deposit of pay into a checking account

There will also be a special New Graduate Student Employee Orientation for International Students. This will be held in Mahar Auditorium beginning at 1:00 p.m. on August 29th. In addition to the items covered at the other orientations, staff from Human Resources will address critical tax issues and Chinese translation services will be available.
