PC Support - Student Position at University Health Services

This is a student employee position in the Systems department of University Health Services. This position provides PC Support services to the UHS user community under the direction of UHS' full-time support staff.

This job is for a UMass undergraduate student in good academic standing. The ideal candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate Computer Science or EC&E degree or has proven experience providing PC Support in an academic or business environment.

Responsibilities:
- Provide Help Desk coverage - receiving, documenting, and triaging computer related issues via multiple channels (in person, by telephone, via email).
- Resolve issues of an appropriate level that are reported to the UHS Help Desk or assigned by UHS Systems staff members. Escalate issues to other UHS staff as appropriate.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and roll-out of UHS Windows based computers to end users, both through manual installation/configuration and through the utilization of ghosting/imaging technology.
- Provide basic system administration support for the creation/deletion of user accounts, routine security changes, etc...
- Maintain appropriate levels of documentation, particularly as it pertains to logging work assigned/completed, managing hardware inventories, and communicating issue and issue resolution details to UHS Systems staff.

Job Requirements:
- Experience, aptitude, and interest in the areas of computer hardware and software, networking, security, and support.
- Excellent customer service skills - patience, attention to detail, helpful attitude, friendly yet professional demeanor, interest in training users, etc...
- Strong communication skills, both verbally (in person and over the phone) and in writing (via email and as documentation).
- Ability to perform effectively as part of a team, under the direct supervision of UHS Systems staff, and independently with minimal supervision as the situation warrants.
- Physical capability to lift/move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Physical capability to crawl under/behind desks and other equipment as needed to run cables, install equipment, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.

This position pays $10/hour, we are seeking individuals who would routinely work 10-20 hours/week with flexible but pre-scheduled hours and days. This position is available immediately. Half-Time Visiting Faculty Position
