IEnabler project: Enabling Internet connectivity from moving vehicles

Overview

The objective of this project is to enable internet connectivity from moving vehicles. WiFi and mesh deployments are becoming popular in urban areas and big cities. But the mesh networks today cannot be used as is to provide continous connectivity from moving vehicles. Our goal is to investigate the connectivity characteristics of mobile and outdoor wireless environments and build a robust protocol that enables the deployment of interactive applications in such environments.

Testbed

We propose to collect traces from real vehcular test beds such as DieselNet deployed at UMass, Amherst and VanLAN deployed at Microsoft Research, Redmond. We propose to use the traces to characterize the network and to run trace-driven simulation experiments.
