"The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." - St. Augustine
"Hey Amr, you're from Egypt. How's it?" - a question asked to a classmate during a class was the true beginning of this trip. The next day I booked the ticket and the day after that I sent my passport (by ordinary mail) to Egyptian consulate for visa. Why Egypt? It is hard to find any more accurate reason that what can be found in the first line here. Anyway, I was up for another travel in my "typical" manner. What's that? Read on.
Passion for travel is never-ending for me, but for quite some time, I had a desire to go for a non-English speaking country. I have also never been to any part of Africa before. All these put together with the usual impulsiveness, and here we are planning a trip to Egypt. Well, not exactly. As most of the times, I was traveling alone without any planning, reservations, or bookings. The only sure thing was a bunch of adventures and explorations that were waiting for me.
Another typical thing was - not doing any packing till the last moment. I had thought of leaving from Amherst early morning and drive to New York City to spend a little time with my relatives and catch the flight which was sometime in the evening. But here I was - around noon on that day still in Amherst - packing..!! The result was obvious - last minute rush. With just a little bit of loss (forgot couple of things like sunglasses), I made it to the airport just in time. And I knew - this was just a beginning. There is a lot to come and happen in next few days. Keep reading about my explorations, discoveries, and more in Egypt (hint: there is a love story, a mad hike, and some other haps and mishaps..!!). First stop: Cairo.
