Bio

Deepak Ganesan is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UMASS Amherst. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA in 2004 under the supervison of Deborah Estrin and John Heidemann, M.S. from USC in 2000, and his bachelors in Computer Science from IIT, Madras in 1998. He received the NSF CAREER Award in 2006 and the IBM Faculty Award in 2008.

Research

My research interests include systems, networking and data management issues in sensor networks. I lead the Sensor Networks Research Group and am also part of SUMA, Systems at UMASS.

Current research projects include:

  • Storage in Sensor Networks

    • PRESTO: A predictive storage architecture for sensor networks
    • Essense: Design of ultra-low power storage subsystems for sensor platforms.
    • Capsule: An object storage system for sensors.
  • Sensor Platforms and Hardware Architectures

    • Essense (see above)
    • ASPIRE: Antipodal Staged Processing in Role-adaptive Embedded Systems
  • Heterogeneous and Multi-modal Sensor Networks

    • SensEye: A Multi-tier Multi-modal Camera Sensor Network
  • Wide-area Large Sensor Networks

    • UTC: Utility-driven progressive transmission for CASA radar sensor networks.
    • UMass Transportation Mesh: Meraki-based wireless mesh for traffic monitoring.
