General Info
I was born and raised in Hoover, Alabama where I graduated from Hoover High School in 1998. In 2001 I graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science. I then went on to study Computer Science at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where I received a Master of Science in Computer Science in 2005 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2007 under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Chase in the Network/Internet Computing Lab.

I am currently a Research Fellow in the Computer Science Department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in conjunction with the Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA). I reside in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where my wife is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Williams College and my dog is not enjoying snow.

Research
My research interests are in distributed systems and operating systems. My graduate worked examined system structures and policies for virtual machine hosting, market-based resource allocation, and power management in data centers. At UMass I am looking at distributed systems issues that arise in the context of sensor networks.
Before moving to Massachusetts I also spent time working at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, New York (Summer 2003) and HP Labs in Palo Alto, California (Spring,Summer 2004).
Past and Present Projects
Designing an Open Resource Control Architecture (Orca)
Leasing physical and virtual hardware using Shirako
   Market-based resource allocation in Cereus
   Reconfigurable cluster computing with Cluster-on-Demand
Publications

Personal
In my spare time during the winter I am learning to downhill ski at Jiminy Peak. Here are some pictures (email me for username and password). During the milder seasons I enjoy a variety of other outdoor activities including basketball, kayaking, hiking, and cycling.
