Students place second in programming competition

Graduate students CJ Carey and Jon Leahey were on the UMass Amherst Computer Science team "Skyward Nord" that placed second in the Finals and first in the Semifinal 1 round of the the inaugural Windward International Intercollegiate Programming Championship held on January 28, 2012. UMass Amherst students who competed on other teams included Vijay Pemmeraju, Tung Pham, Anthony Moh, Alex Fuller, Bill Crane, Mike DeRoy, Reed Silverstein, Justin Ivy, and Sean Madigan.
Along with UMass Amherst, Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Georgia Tech, Harvey Mudd College, Purdue University, Stanford University, University of Illinois, University of Toronto, and University of Wisconsin competed in the code-war challenge. More details.
