Fees

The fees that an individual student pays depends on the number of credits a student is enrolled in for the semester and if the PhD student has an assistantship or fellowship. At UMass Amherst students who are GEO eligible receive waivers for the tuition, curriculum, and a portion of the health fees.

Below are sample semesterly bills that you may receive during your studies at UMass Amherst (numbers are based on 2020-2021 rates).

MS Student

Effective with the cohort entering in Fall 2016, students in terminal master's programs in the College of Information and Computer Sciences are ineligible for assistantships in the college or elsewhere on campus. Exceptions can be granted only if supported by the Chair of the Faculty and approved by the Dean of the College, in extraordinary circumstances needed to meet instructional or research needs.

 

Mandatory Fees

Tuition- $15,060.00 (9 cr.)
*will be less if you are a Mass Resident or New England Resident
Student Health Plan- $1,485.00
Student Health Fee-$401.50
*US students who can show proof of other insurance can apply for a SHIP waiver by the add/drop deadline
Service Fee- $635.00
Graduate Senate Tax- $74.00

Optional Fees- fee can be waived

Mass Pirg- $11.00

Other Fees

Entering Graduate Fee- $507.00
*this fee is a one-time fee

 

PhD Student

most tuition/Fees Waived by an Assistantship

Tuition- $10,040.00 (6 cr.)
*will be less if you are a Mass Resident or New England Resident
*the entirety of this fee is credited with assistantship
Student Health Plan- $1,485.00
*95% of this fee is credited with assistantship

Mandatory Fees

Student Health Fee-$18.73
*the health fee is $401.50 if you are GEO eligible through your assistantship 95% of this fee is credited 
Service Fee- $444.50
*this fee is a mandatory fee
Graduate Senate Tax- $74.00
*this fee is a mandatory fee
